Over 1000 people are expected to participate in the ‘Go Heritage Run – Udaipur’ on October 18th 2015. This is a first of its kind event in Udaipur and in Rajasthan. It is being organized by GoUNESCO, in partnership with UNESCO New Delhi, Maharana of Mewar Charitable Foundation (MMCF) and HRH Group of Hotels, Udaipur. Udaipur Municipal Corporation under the leadership of District Collector Mr. Rohit Gupta, I.A.S has promised full support and cooperation to make the event a success. The run is non-competitive and will aim to raise awareness of the unique heritage environment preserved in Udaipur. The run routes will cover historic areas of Udaipur including the iconic City Palace, Jagdish Mandir and Lake Pichola and Lake Fatehsagar, providing participants with spectacular views of Udaipur.
“GoUNESCO’s online and offline activities designed to trigger conversations and appreciation of heritage is commendable. The idea of organizing fun runs to promote heritage tourism and traditional crafts is especially fresh. We at UNESCO welcome efforts such as these to promote heritage sites across India and are happy to support the Go Heritage Run – Udaipur,” said Moe Chiba, Programme Specialist, Culture Sector, UNESCO New Delhi.
Mr. Lakshyaraj Singh Mewar, Trustee-MMCF, said “We welcome the first-ever Go Heritage Run in our city and wish it all success. Every citizen of Udaipur should participate in this novel way of appreciating our historic heritage city. Udaipur has many ‘firsts’ to its credit, this is yet another feather in our city’s cap.”
Ajay Reddy, founder of Go Heritage Runs said “Every one of us loves heritage, but there is a dearth of avenues for laypersons to engage with it. From our experience organizing runs at heritage site across the country, we have seen that runs are a fabulous, inclusive way to engage people of all demographics. We are glad to partner with MMCF and UNESCO in bringing our heritage run experience to Udaipur.”
Registrations remain open until the 13th of October and interested participants can sign up at goheritagerun.com/udaipur. Local registrations at a nominal fee will be available to students and residents of Udaipur.
