This temple was deserted for many years and it was renovated by Shri Mansapurna Karni Mata development committee in 1997. The temple can be reached through stairs commencing from Manikyalal Verma Park or through Ropeway which connects Deendayal Upadhyay Park to Karni Mata Temple.
Karni Mata Temple is also popularly known as ‘The Rat Temple’ and this name adds lot of curiosity among visitors to know the reason for the same. Actually when Karni Mata’s son died, he was reborn as rat. It is believed that Karni Mata convinced the “God of Death – Yamraj “ that all my descendents after dying will be reincarnated as rats. So this temple even today has large number of rats. These rats are worshipped and they are considered holy and sacred. Spotting a white rat at this temple is symbolic of ‘Good Fortune’.
The sound of ringing bells and the spiritual music of melodious aarti and bhajans into this temple, make devotees experience the supreme power and existence of Goddess Karni. Being located in the lap of beautiful surroundings, the temple also offers picturesque sight of Dudh Talai, Sajjangarh and Lake Pichola which remarkably enhances the grandeur of its overall appearance. Another famous temple of Goddess Karni is located in Bikaner, Rajasthan which is 500 – 700 years old.
